NEET and Class 12 boards share most of their syllabus. The difference is how you are tested. Here is how to manage both in one year.

NEET and Class 12 boards overlap heavily in Physics, Chemistry and Biology, so preparing for both is not twice the work. The main difference is the format: MCQs in NEET, written answers in boards.

What overlaps
The Class 12 PCB syllabus for boards and NEET is largely the same, and both rely on NCERT.
What differs
- NEET needs Class 11 as well, speed, and precise MCQ recall.
- Boards need written answers with keywords, steps, derivations and diagrams.
- Boards include English and another subject.
A timeline for the year
- Until November: prepare concepts for both, with NEET-style practice.
- December to the board exams: shift to board answer writing, sample papers and derivations, while keeping a daily NEET MCQ set.
- After boards: full focus on NEET, including Class 11 revision and mocks.
Revise this faster: NEET PCB Complete Notes — handwritten, colour-coded notes with points often asked, PYQs and tricks in every chapter.
Tips
- Practise writing answers once a week from October onwards.
- Keep a list of board-only items such as derivations and long answers.
- Do not drop NEET practice completely during boards; a short daily set keeps you sharp.
The short version
NEET and boards share the Class 12 syllabus. Build concepts for both, switch to board writing practice in the months before boards, keep a daily NEET set, and give full focus to NEET after boards.
