NEET Biology mnemonics that actually stick
A handful of well-chosen mnemonics can save you marks on NEET Biology lists and sequences. Here are accurate ones for common NCERT topics, and how to make your own.

NEET Biology is full of lists and sequences: hierarchies, stages, orders of abundance and steps in a pathway. Questions often test whether you can recall them in the right order. Mnemonics help, but only if they are accurate and only if you understand what each letter stands for.
Below are mnemonics for topics that come up often in NCERT-based questions, followed by a simple way to make your own.

Classification
Taxonomic hierarchy
King Philip Came Over For Good Soup: Kingdom, Phylum (Division in plants), Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species.
Remember that the categories become more specific as you go down, and that species is the basic unit of classification.
Cell division
Mitosis stages
PMAT: Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase. Interphase comes before, and cytokinesis follows.
Substages of Prophase I in meiosis
Lazy Zebras Prefer Dark Dens: Leptotene, Zygotene, Pachytene, Diplotene, Diakinesis.
Attach the key event to each word: synapsis begins in zygotene, crossing over happens in pachytene, chiasmata become visible in diplotene, and terminalisation of chiasmata is seen in diakinesis. Questions often test these events, not just the order.
Human physiology
White blood cells in order of abundance
Never Let Monkeys Eat Bananas: Neutrophils, Lymphocytes, Monocytes, Eosinophils, Basophils.
Neutrophils are the most abundant and basophils the least.
Conduction of the heartbeat
SA, AV, His, Purkinje: the impulse starts at the SA node (the pacemaker), passes to the AV node, then through the bundle of His and its branches, and finally to the Purkinje fibres.
Respiratory volumes
Rather than a word mnemonic, remember the approximate NCERT values as a sequence: tidal volume about 500 mL, inspiratory reserve volume about 2500 to 3000 mL, expiratory reserve volume about 1000 to 1100 mL, residual volume about 1100 to 1200 mL. Capacities are sums of these volumes, so learn the volumes first.
Plant physiology
Krebs cycle intermediates
Citrate Is Krebs' Starting Substrate For Making Oxaloacetate: Citrate, Isocitrate, alpha-Ketoglutarate, Succinyl CoA, Succinate, Fumarate, Malate, Oxaloacetate.
Plant growth regulators
Link each regulator to one strong effect:
- Auxin: apical dominance and rooting of stem cuttings.
- Gibberellin: stem elongation and bolting.
- Cytokinin: cell division and delay of leaf senescence.
- Ethylene: fruit ripening.
- Abscisic acid: stomatal closure and dormancy, often called the stress hormone.

Ecology
Population interactions
Learn them as signs for the two species:
- Mutualism: + / +
- Competition: − / −
- Predation and parasitism: + / −
- Commensalism: + / 0
- Amensalism: − / 0
Questions often describe an interaction and ask you to name it, so the signs are faster than definitions.
Causes of biodiversity loss
The evil quartet: habitat loss and fragmentation, over-exploitation, alien species invasions, and co-extinctions.
Genetics
Factors affecting Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium
Five factors: gene migration (gene flow), genetic drift, mutation, genetic recombination and natural selection. A simple way to hold them is to group them as "movement" (migration, drift) and "change" (mutation, recombination, selection).
How to make your own mnemonics
Ready-made mnemonics are useful, but your own often stick better.
- Understand the list first. A mnemonic for something you do not understand will not help in a twisted question.
- Use the first letters in order. Then build a short sentence, funny or personal if possible.
- Hinglish is fine. Many students remember Hindi or Hinglish phrases more easily.
- Attach facts to each word. For meiosis, link each substage to its event.
- Test it. Write the full list from the mnemonic the next day. If you cannot, change it.
Frequently asked questions
Do mnemonics really help in NEET?
They help with lists and sequences. They do not replace understanding, especially for statement-based questions.
How many mnemonics should I use?
Only as many as you need. Use them for lists you keep forgetting, not for everything.
Where can I find more Biology tricks?
Paper Predict Notes include tricks and mnemonics, many in Hinglish, alongside the topics they cover.
The short version
Use mnemonics for lists and sequences you keep forgetting, such as the taxonomic hierarchy, meiosis substages, WBC order and the Krebs cycle. Always attach the key facts to each word, and make your own for lists that do not stick.
