Reading NCERT line by line for NEET: a practical method
"Read NCERT line by line" is common advice, but few people explain how. Here is a method that works.

Most NEET Biology questions, and many Chemistry questions, come from NCERT. "Read NCERT line by line" means reading so closely that you would notice if one word in a sentence changed.

What to mark on the first reading
- Numbers: chromosome numbers, volumes, percentages.
- Names: scientists, organisms, enzymes, hormones.
- Exceptions: words like "except", "only", "unlike".
- Comparisons: "more than", "less than", "unlike".
- Definitions in bold or italics.
Do not skip
- Tables.
- Figure captions and labels.
- Boxed text and summaries at the end of chapters.
These are some of the most frequent sources of questions.
Second and third readings
On later readings, read only the lines you marked, plus anything you got wrong in PYQs or mocks. Each reading becomes faster.
Link lines to PYQs
After solving a chapter's PYQs, find the NCERT line each one came from and mark it in a different colour. Over time you will see which kinds of lines get asked.
Revise this faster: Biology Detailed Notes — handwritten, colour-coded notes with points often asked, PYQs and tricks in every chapter.
How notes help
Notes help you revise faster between NCERT readings. In Paper Predict Notes, the lines with the strongest exam history appear in Points often asked boxes, and PYQs sit next to the topic.
The short version
Read NCERT slowly, marking numbers, names, exceptions, comparisons and definitions. Never skip tables, captions or summaries. Later readings cover only marked lines, and every PYQ gets linked back to its source line.
