JEE vs Class 12 boards: what to prioritise and when
JEE and boards share the Class 12 PCM syllabus but test it very differently. Here is how to plan the year.
Paper Predict Notes · 02 Dec 2025

JEE Main and Class 12 boards overlap in Physics, Chemistry and Maths, but JEE rewards problem-solving speed while boards reward clear written answers.

What overlaps
The Class 12 PCM concepts, and the importance of NCERT for Chemistry.
What differs
- JEE includes Class 11, harder problems and numerical-value questions.
- Boards need derivations, step-by-step working, diagrams and presentation, plus English and another subject.
A timeline
- Until November: focus on JEE-level concepts and problems, which also cover board concepts.
- December to boards: practise board answers, derivations and sample papers, with a short daily JEE set.
- After boards: full JEE focus, with mocks and Class 11 revision.
Revise this faster: JEE PCM Complete Notes — handwritten, colour-coded notes with points often asked, PYQs and tricks in every chapter.
Tips
- Keep a list of board-only items, especially Physics derivations and Chemistry reasoning questions.
- Practise one board paper per subject each week from December.
- Remember that board marks can matter for eligibility, so do not neglect them.
The short version
Build JEE-level concepts until November, practise board writing in the months before boards with a daily JEE set, then focus fully on JEE after boards.
