JEE Main PYQ analysis: patterns from recent sessions

JEE Main runs many shifts each year, and patterns still show through. Here is what recent previous year questions reveal and how to use them.

JEE Main PYQ analysis: patterns from recent sessions — Paper Predict Notes

JEE Main is held in multiple sessions and shifts, so every year produces many papers. That makes previous year questions (PYQs) more useful, not less, because patterns show across a large sample.

This JEE Main PYQ analysis covers how sessions differ, the patterns in each subject, numerical-value questions and how to use PYQs in your revision.

Outline of JEE Main PYQ analysis: patterns from recent sessions
What this guide covers

Why sessions differ

Each shift has its own paper, and difficulty can vary between shifts. One shift may be Physics-heavy in calculation, another may have a tougher Maths section. Do not judge a chapter's importance from one shift. Look across all shifts of a session.

Physics patterns

Modern physics, current electricity, electrostatics and mechanics appear across most shifts. Direct formula questions are common in modern physics and semiconductors, while mechanics and electrodynamics carry more multi-step problems.

Chemistry patterns

Chemistry questions stay close to NCERT, especially in inorganic chapters. Chemical bonding, coordination compounds, p-block elements and organic reaction mechanisms are asked most years. Physical chemistry contributes many numerical-value questions.

Maths patterns

Calculus, matrices and determinants, vectors and 3D, and coordinate geometry show up across shifts. Some question types return almost unchanged, such as properties of definite integrals and determinant evaluations.

Numerical-value questions

Each subject has 5 numerical-value questions. In PYQs they tend to come from chapters with clean calculations: physical chemistry, modern physics, current electricity, and in Maths, determinants, vectors and probability. Practise getting an exact final number with no options to guide you.

Using PYQs

  1. Solve PYQs chapter-wise right after revising a chapter.
  2. Tag each question by type, not just chapter.
  3. Redo wrong ones after a week.
  4. In the final months, solve full shifts under time.

Paper Predict builds on this kind of analysis to rank likely questions. Paper Predict reports 55% prediction accuracy for JEE Main 2026 (April).

Frequently asked questions

How many years of JEE Main PYQs should I solve?

The recent few years across all shifts give a strong sample. Start with the most recent sessions.

Do JEE Main questions repeat exactly?

Rarely word for word, but question types and concepts repeat often.

Should I solve PYQs chapter-wise or as full papers?

Chapter-wise during revision, full shifts in the final months.

The short version

Look across all shifts, not one. Modern physics, electrodynamics, NCERT inorganic chemistry, calculus and determinants recur. Solve PYQs chapter-wise first, tag by type, and move to timed full shifts later.
