Outline of ICSE vs CBSE Class 10: how preparation differs
What this guide covers

Syllabus depth

ICSE tends to go into more detail in some subjects and has separate papers for Physics, Chemistry and Biology. CBSE follows NCERT closely.

Paper pattern

Both use 80-mark papers with 20 internal marks for most subjects, but the question styles differ. Check your board's latest specimen or sample paper.

Languages

ICSE gives English Language and Literature significant weight, so regular writing practice matters.

Preparation style

  • CBSE: stay close to NCERT language and practise competency-based questions.
  • ICSE: expect more detailed answers and use the prescribed textbooks and specimen papers.

Choosing notes

Use notes written for your board. CBSE notes will not cover ICSE fully, and the reverse.

The short version

ICSE goes deeper with more separate papers and heavier language work; CBSE follows NCERT closely. Prepare from your own board's syllabus, papers and notes.
