How CBSE toppers write answers in Class 12
Board marks depend on how you write, not just what you know. These are the answer-writing habits that score well in CBSE Class 12.

In CBSE boards, two students with the same knowledge can score very differently. The difference is usually how they write.

Read the marking scheme
CBSE publishes sample papers with marking schemes. Read them to see how marks are split: a point per idea, marks for formulas and steps, marks for diagrams.
Match length to marks
- 1-mark: one line or the correct option.
- 2 and 3-mark: two or three clear points.
- 5-mark: an introduction line, five or so points with headings, a diagram if relevant, and a one-line conclusion.
Use NCERT keywords
Examiners look for specific terms. Write "double fertilisation", not "two fertilisations". Underline key terms.
Show every step
In numericals and derivations, write the formula, substitute values with units, and box the final answer.
Add diagrams and flowcharts
A labelled diagram often earns marks on its own and makes the answer clearer.
Revise this faster: Class 12 Science CBSE Notes — handwritten, colour-coded notes with points often asked, PYQs and tricks in every chapter.
Manage time
Read the paper for the first 15 minutes, attempt sections you know best first, and leave 10 minutes at the end to check.
The short version
Follow the marking scheme, match length to marks, use NCERT keywords, show every step, add diagrams and keep time to check.
