CBSE Class 10 PYQ analysis: what repeats every year
Class 10 board papers repeat question types more than students expect. Here is what comes back in each subject.

CBSE Class 10 board papers change every year, but the types of questions repeat often. Solving previous year questions (PYQs) shows you those patterns and the answer format examiners expect.
This CBSE Class 10 PYQ analysis covers Maths, Science and Social Science, competency-based questions and how to use PYQs.

Maths
Word problems on linear and quadratic equations, AP sums, trigonometric identities, heights and distances, combination of solids, and mean, median and mode from grouped data come back most years. The theorems on tangents and the Basic Proportionality Theorem are asked often.
Science
Balancing and classifying reactions, pH and salts, reactivity series, human life processes, Mendel's experiments, ray diagrams, mirror and lens numericals, and resistance in series and parallel are repeat favourites. Labelled diagrams appear in most papers.
Social Science
Nationalism in India, resources and agriculture, power sharing and federalism, sectors of the economy and money and credit are asked most years. Map questions draw from the CBSE map list each time.
Revise this faster: Class 10 CBSE Complete Pack — handwritten, colour-coded notes with points often asked, PYQs and tricks in every chapter.
Competency questions
Recent papers include more case-based and competency-based questions. They describe a situation and test the same NCERT concepts. Practise them from sample papers and recent PYQs so the format feels familiar.
Using PYQs
- After finishing a chapter, solve its PYQs.
- Check against the marking scheme and note missed points.
- In the last two months, solve full papers under time.
- Revise the questions you got wrong a week later.
Frequently asked questions
How many years of PYQs should I solve?
The most recent few years plus the latest sample paper give a strong picture.
Do questions repeat word for word?
Sometimes, but question types repeat far more often. Learn the method, not the answer.
The short version
Maths word problems and theorems, Science reactions, diagrams and numericals, and core SST chapters repeat most. Solve PYQs chapter-wise, check against the marking scheme, and finish with timed full papers.
